Hmmm. This is going to be quite a risky post, I guess, but I'm feeling daring today. :)
Every once in a while a certain hype about a certain Filofax model develops. To most of them I fall victim, I admit - the formula of falling in love definitely works its magic on me! But there are certain models of Filofaxes that most people seem to adore, while I just - well, don't get them. And, mind you, I even own some of them! :)
So, these are some of the very popular Filofaxes for which I wonder why they got so much buzz about (all the photos are official ones from online stores):
1. Kendal
2. Finchley in Imperial Purple
3. Malden in Crimson
4. Regency
5. Chameleon in Raspberry
6. Ostrich
7. Siena
8. Classic
So, please, don't loose your patience with me; try to convince me otherwise instead! ;)
Nooooooo not the raspberry Cham! You HAVE to fall in love with it! It's just inexplicable! :D
ReplyDeleteNow, most of the rest I agree :) I owned the Classic for a short period and really didn't bond much with it. Malden (I have one!) but strangely enough it is tucked in the box still. Although I like petting other people's Maldens. Maybe I should give it a try someday?
Anyway, love your "daring" list!
Haha, a girl after my own heart! :)
DeleteIs it of any consolation if I tell you that I'm actually in quite a good relationship with a certain Chameleon in Aqua instead? :)
I'm just not into temperamental pinks, you know! :))
LOL temperamental pinks! Perfect! hahaha

ReplyDeleteOK - feeling brave myself here... here's my thoughts on each:
ReplyDelete1. Kendal - I didn't get it either, until I bought one... I am now strangely hooked (so hooked that I haven't even attempted to move into
my new chilli Cuban for a test run yet). This binder is just so rugged and strong, it just makes me feel that I can be as rough
as I like and it will stand up to anything that is thrown at it - not that I am in the habit of being rough with my babies, or
throwing things at them, but it's nice to know I could :o)
2. Imperial Purple Finchley - such soft Finchley leather, and a really lovely dark purple colour - fully strokeable, but not one of my
personal favourites
3. Crimson Malden - loved it when I first got it and still do, but I have to admit the leather isn't as nice as on the Ochre or Purple
4. Regency - never seen one in the flesh, but not sure about them either...
5. Raspberry Chameleon - this is the filofax that started me on my journey. Lucy pulled hers out of her bag when she was arranging
to meet someone and as soon as I got home I started investigating filos to see which one I wanted. This one will always have
a special place in my heart
6. Ostrich - again, I have never seen this one in the flesh and it looks like it wouldn't be that tactile. But from the posts by people who
have then it seems that these are beautiful to the touch. I would really like to see one, but it's probably better if I don't, those
bad boys are expensive :o)
7. Sienna - I really don't get that one myself. It just seems weird...
8. Classic - this one just doesn't appeal to me for some reason. I don't dislike it, but it looks like it would be quite hard and not very
strokeable...
I'm so glad you posted this, as it made me think, but didn't make me feel like I now have to go and buy something else, or try yet another
change in my filo setup :o)
LJ, thank you, both for the great reply and for consolation through knowing that someone feels the same way about the very popular filos...
Deletebut we'll find a way and new binders to enable ourselves real soon, won't we? ;)
Great to hear from you again! :)
I agree with a few of these, though I have the purple Finchley and I love the colour and feel. The ostrich is a beautiful one I'll never afford but I like it. But the Regency, you MUST see one in the flesh. I've recently been very naughty and bought one in brown and one in black (not full price!) which I'll do blogs posts on later in the year. The leather finish is beautiful in both colours and they feel firm and nice to hold. The pocket setup suits my needs perfectly. I'll even risk upsetting my other Filofaxes by saying the Regencies are my favourites by far! They even beat my beloved Baroques.
ReplyDeleteSweetheart, I was one of those you infected really badly with the love for Baroques. I almost spilled my blood hunting them down in their 5-seconds-before-extinction phase after that.
DeletePlease don't tell me there's a Regency disease following, I'm still not myself yet! :D
Really, I'm eager to read all about them (and am getting myself prepared)! :) xx
yep, another one here infected by Missy acclair. Good times at the beginning of the year drooling over Whimsicality's Baroque post. :D
DeleteI couldn't agree more, Lime Tree! :D
DeleteAgreed on the last three but all of them before that look awesome.
ReplyDeleteHm, I think Iknow what you mean! :)
DeleteIt just goes to show that there is a wide range of shapes, sizes, textures and colours to suit everyone's tastes.
ReplyDelete^_^ Yep!
DeleteVery true; and I hope the range will expand vastly really soon!
DeleteHi!
ReplyDelete1. Kendal
I don't like the interior design, but I like the leather because it's so durable!
2. Finchley in Imperial Purple
I agree with you on this one. It's the weirdest of the Finchleys and very dry. I much prefer my Mustard even though the violet COLOR is much more pretty!
3. Malden in Crimson
My least favorite color in the Malden range. And the leather is so weird.
4. Regency
I really thought this one would be really hard, but when I got to see one irl I fell in love and promptly bought a compact, haha! It's so soft and puffy!
5. Chameleon in Raspberry
Totally agree with Lime! Might be because I love the Chameleon style. But this is one of the few pink hues/shades that I really like and feel that I can use.
6. Ostrich
I first thought it was a bit strange to make an organizer with ostrich leather, but now it's on my bucket list. I do love ostrich leather handbags, after all. ;)
7. Siena
My first thought when I saw this one was "Omg, that's a weird organizer!" But then I got to feel the leather and OH MY! Seriously. Tactile-wise this is my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE! The best luxury leather of all the filofaxes I have ever held. If it could keep that absoltely heavenly texture but somehow morph into the Holborn's KIND of leather (my favorite kind of leather).... *sigh* <3
Also - the front pocket on the Siena is perfect for post it plastic film index packages. Heaven for a student like me, so I use that one to keep up to three packages. ^_^
8. Classic
Agreed. Absolute disaster. Hard leather and the plastic coating peels off and never lies flat. *sigh*
Yu, do I say thank you for agreeing with me in some parts or do I say thank you for the enabling in those others? :)
DeleteSeriously, I'm afraid that if I read your reply just once more, I'll buy some more Filofaxes!!! :)
Great to hear from you, thanks! :)
Haha, aw, sorry! ^_~ (not sorry at all)
DeleteReposting as my reply was completely off! (:
ReplyDeleteI do understand your ambivalence because I've been in the same boat. I got a pocket Amazona in brown and just didn't get the hype. (Could it be the color, size, or something else?) The Balmoral, also in pocket, was another disappointment. I guess until I feel one in my hands and use it, I really don't know what I'm getting.
Sight unseen, I bought the Malden, Finchley, Classic and Chameleon, and find I like them. Like you though, I don't get the hype about the others. I guess I have to feel and touch them to know.
Gee, Doris, I agree... but knowing myself, I buy one "just to see and get the feel of it"... and then when I have it, it's impossible to part with it... and then there's this drawer with all of my Filofax history... :))
DeleteI love my Finchley! It's purple, it was the first real leather organizer I owned, and it's purple. :D
ReplyDeleteThe ones I don't understand the appeal of are the Amazona and the Baroque. The Amazona leather is much too puffy for my tastes, and the Baroque inside just seems busy to me, though I know some love the design!
Uh oh, Hannah, point taken! :D (I'm one of the Amazona and Baroque breed! :D)
DeleteOstrich is beautiful (well, to me, anyway), luxe, and absolutely wears like iron. My ostrich personal is easily 40+ years old ( I bought a vintage one, used), has been through heavy usage by both me and the previous owner, and except for the cover on the snap, is in good enough shape to take me through the next 20+ years. Averaged over the years, it is worth every penny of its (premium, I'll admit) cost.
ReplyDeleteJust recently had my first hands-on Filofax experience and I love the Maldens! Now I'm on a quest to get the (dun dun duuuuun) CRIMSON POCKET MALDEN! I just "have to have it" and I'm sure I'll love it because it's the only color I am missing. But it is nowhere to be found now because I didn't get on the Filofax bandwagon till barely a couple months ago. Too late :(
